Suitcase of Love and Shame (70 min, 2013) is an experimental film that reconstructs a mesmerizing and erotic narrative sourced from 60 hours of audiotapes. The reel-to-reel tapes, recorded in the 1960′s, were discovered in a suitcase purchased on eBay. In the recordings, a Mid-western woman and her lover chronicle the explicit details of their adulterous affair. The film suggestively foregrounds the recorder as the confidant, witness, and participant the couple come to depend on — always omnipresent, the recorder creates a welcomed ménage-à-trois. Suitcase of Love and Shame aims for a cross-generational dialogue about exhibitionism, privacy, voyeurism, and the role technology plays in our most intimate relationships.
